Since retirement, I have begun writing poems and short stories
as an emotionally rewarding hobby. The following have been published:
Woman's World, The Woman's Weekly magazine.
"Your Christmas Traditions are so Very Special"
The Abbotsford Learning Plus Society's "Who Will Wind the
Watches", stories by British Columbia Seniors. My contribution
was "Wartime Memories".
The Langley Writers' Guild Chapbooks:
"Rendezvous in Reykjavik"
"The Case of the Nervous Nun"
"Chantilly Lace"
The following poem is in the form of a Ghazal. The two icons
used are a heart shape as a symbol of peacemaker and a treble
clef as a symbol of harmony.
On top of the black pot-bellied stove a pot
of chicken soup is prepared by "peacemaker"
To bring "harmony" to angry family members who squirm
in each other's presence
Like clouds, we hover between the world and the heavens
Between the actual and the void
The soothing aroma of nourishment fills the air and
Softens the mutual anguish around the table
It never did work
But "peacemaker" was remembered for at least trying.
