Our Roots
Our writers’ group
has been meeting since the summer of 2003. We meet in person in physical
reality at a member’s house in Langley City, British Columbia,
Canada. We also stay in touch through this virtual reality.
We are an informal support
group of writers who all believe only other writers understand us. That
might not be true, but since most writing is done while alone, we are
happy to congregate once a week to “testify” and worship
“The Muse” with like-minded souls.
The name of our group originated
by default. We were not being very creative in coming up with a name,
until our member, Nathaniel Poole, told us about receiving a gift from
a friend returning from Australia. The gift was a rubberized phallic
prosthesis shaped like a ram’s head. He brought the item ensconced
on the top of a slim brass vase to a meeting. It became our “talking
stick”. If you held the Ram’s Head, it was your turn to
read, or speak. After the laughter died, we agreed The Ram’s Head
Writers’ Group would suit us just fine.
Our members (past, present,
local or distant) have turned their writing talents to such diverse
efforts as poetry, creative non-fiction, short stories, novels, science
fiction, historical fact, romance, fantasy, mystery, adventure, young
adult, erotica, magazine and newspaper and radio journalism, and songwriting.
At our meetings we ask that
members bring something to read, either their own work or something
about writing. We are more than willing to share any information we
have on local writing courses, contests, publishing venues, agents or
calls for submissions, or conferences, as well as any useful links to
resources for writers.
New members are welcome,
either in person or through the internet. If you have any questions
or would like to attend a meeting, contact Lisa at: hatton697@gmail.com.
