THE RAM’S HEAD REVIEW

June 10, 2007

There were seven of us here Thursday night, most with excuses about not writing lately. But that happens.

Margaret read to us from the Peabody saga. All the searchers gathered belatedly at the Hound and Fox Inn, and all reported their escapades in their unsuccessful search for Rev. Peabody. Of course, they quite enjoyed the get-together with pints of ale, until the innkeeper called “Time”.

Susan read us her latest rejection from Knopff. It was personalized and contained many suggestions for getting published, including the names of 3 west coast agents, one of whom had already turned Susan down twice.

Susan then read Chapter 19 that starts out with Barley at home being fussed over by his mother. But then they all head out to track Stanley and end up at Alphonse’s home in Morgan Creek. Barley jumps a fence to get into the yard where he sees Stanley, and sets off an alarm. Alphonse arrives to turn it off. Searching the house they find his son, who doesn’t think he was kidnapped, just away on a fun holiday with a woman they know. Meanwhile, the SWAT team and the canine unit also show up, to apprehend the kidnapper. Exciting.

I did read a critique I did on “Bloodletting And Miraculous Cures”. I’m not part of my daughter-in-law’s book club, so I don’t know what things they would be looking for after reading this book. I used the critique form posted on our website and annalyzed as a writer would. They will probably think me strange, but the writers in my group understood what I was saying.

Susan’s last time with us will be Thursday, June 21st, and I do hope you will come out to bid her a fond farewell and a safe and happy journey before she leaves on the long drive moving back to Newfoundland. The 21st will be our last chance to see her.

Reminder that Father’s Day is June 17th, a week away. I’ve sent Sonny something to post on our website, on our Father’s Day page, and hope others will do the same.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, June 14th, at 7:00 p.m. here at my place. Hope to see you then and may you at least think about doing some writing.
