I write this as the heavens
are flooding the Lower Mainland with unceasing rain. I hope to
send this before I have to evacuate my den where the carpet is now soaked.
Bryon is downstairs suctioning water up from that floor. If this
is the pineapple express, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to appreciate
that food item again.
Thursday’s meeting was mostly
social. Bob brought two boxes of books and tapes and DVDs and
CDs to give away, and we had fun divying up the treasures.
Margaret read to us of Rev.
Peabody being told to evacuate the castle at 3:00 a.m. He was
taken to a local church manse where he stayed with a couple named Mary
and Joseph. He thought he saw a ghost in his bedroom there that
night, but it was Joseph walking through his room to unlock a bathroom
door.
Susan read her next chapter
where Barley gets back from Barkerville, picks up Stanley, and then
decides to go geocacheing at Bear Creek Park instead of going to the
border to help Newton. Eventually, he does get to Peace Arch Park,
where he ties Stanley close to the railroad tracks and then proceeds
to look for the cache about the kidnapped boy. Just as he finds
the cache, he’s caught by the American Border Guard on the American
side.
I read a personal article called
“One Man’s Haven” about Honey trying to get to his cabin this
past week. It was a humourous look at two grown men trying to
get away and do the “manly” thing away from suburbia.
Ellie and Bob did not have
anything to read. Ellie says she’s been too busy, and Bob says
it’s baseball season. Lynette was still away, Gemma was unable
to attend, and Jean said her husband was in St. Paul’s with an infected
ankle. Nathaniel had said he would be there Thursday, but wasn’t.
He and Tracy are getting their house ready to list for sale.
As long as I’m not flooded out, the next meeting will be here at my place Thursday, March 15th at 7:00 p.m., the good Lord willing and the creeks don’t rise any further.
Does anyone have flood inspired
stories to read? Bring them Thursday.
