Seven of us were here for Thursday’s meeting. Susan brought some books to give away. Amanda had phoned to say she couldn’t make the meeting. Ann’s creative writing course for a novella was cancelled and she is now taking creative non-fiction instead. Says she’s quite enjoying a real classroom structure instead of the virtual, and that the instructor is so informative and inspiring. And Carolann’s Mother’s Day piece was published in both the Langley Advance and The Langley Times. Nathaniel attended our meeting and we were glad to see him, especially since he’d gone to White Rock the previous Friday, and none of the rest of us showed up. He had a picture of the sailboat he’s preparing for him and Tracey and Tara to live on when their house is sold. With proposed flooding on the horizon, he’s the only one I know building an ark. And no, I haven’t heard from Michael about the arrival of his latest offspring.
Margaret read first about the continued search for Rev. Peabody. Alexander and Arthur are in Square A at the top of Cobble Hill, searching tombs and gravestones in the cemetary, feeling the presence of ghosts. Then they happen to spy grave robbers and call out to scare them off, but end up getting arrested as the offenders. Hilarious.
I read two sonnets from the latest issue of Writers’ Digest, one an Italian sonnet and the other an English sonnet. They each had 14 lines of pentameter, but differed in their rhyme scheme. Very interesting.
Susan read Ch. 16 where Stanley is missing from the car when Barley and Phyllis get back to where it’s parked. They find a note that says “The end is near. I said no police.” In Ch. 17, they search for the next cache at Golden Ears, where Barley is attacked by a cougar. There’s good suspense in these chapters.
Regarding our website, there is now a link there to the John Kenneth Galbraith Literary Award Contest, and their site exhibits a link to our site. So maybe we’re not rich, but we are becoming more famous. Right? And now Father’s Day is just around the corner, if you would like to submit some related work for that.
Keep writing, and please consider adding a piece or two to our “Works” page, to showcase your abilities. You never know who might read it one day.
Next meeting here at my place, Thursday, May 24th at 7:00 p.m. Look forward to seeing you then.
