Good meeting Thursday
night with 6 of us here. Susan’s children were in a school concert so she
was unable to join us.
Bob showed us a library
book he was reading, “The Ghosts Of Medak Pocket”, about Canadian troops
who engaged Croats in the former Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. There was
some action then that we didn’t know about here at home.
Margaret informed us
of some hate mail she received after a recent letter to the editor she had
sent to The Langley Times, in which she refuted the idea that our involvement
in Afghanistan is similar to our role in WWII. We advised her that any future
hate mail should be turned over to the R.C.M.P.
Margaret read some more
of her Peabody collection. We hear of Constable Constable telling Marie
about Rev. Peabody and the parrot having gone missing with the motorcycle
sidecar. Peacock tells the innkeeper down at the Hound and Fox about the
missing sidecar. A search grid is drawn up to search Cobble Hill for the
missing Peabody. The squares in the grid are designated by letters of the
alphabet and the volunteer searches are assigned to squares so that the
first letter of their names matches the letter of the square. Margaret also
had a number of her own illustrations for this collection of stories to
show us. We were just amazed at all the detail she included.
Ellie was going to read
but then discovered she had left her pages at home beside her computer.
Bob read us more history
of some retail jewellers. He mentioned Karl Stitkin, who now does ceramics
on Pender Island, and Wolfgang Klebe, Alexander Markwart, Greg Otten and
a number of others.
Gemma was able to join
us Thursday and read two pieces. The first was “That’s What Life Is About”
which detailed the recent car accident she had been in, where she suffered
whiplash, her dog was injured, and after which her brother suffered a heart
attack. The moral of the story is “don’t rush through life, it isn’t worth
it”.
The second piece Gemma
read was “Visitors”, about finding a little bird in a houseplant inside
her house, which stayed all night. In the morning she and her dog were able
to convince the bird to leave, but another bird flew in, and she thought
the second one was a big black crow.
Michael, Candice, Ann
and I met in White Rock for lunch on Friday, even though it was raining.
Wimps that we are, we sat inside and not on the patio. Michael and Candice
are expecting any day now, but Candice looked good and they were both excited
awaiting the arrival of a son they shall name Legend. And Ann is looking
forward to her next creative writing course where she will attempt to write
a novella.
CALLING ALL
RAMS!
Now here’s some exciting news. In her last course, Ann learned about the need for authors to self-promote, and in response to that she has entered the Ram’s Head website in a Writers’ Digest contest for the best writing group website. That is just so inspiring.
Here is your chance
to showcase some of your own work. You can submit pieces to our “Works”
section or you can send something for our Mothers’ Day page. I do ask that
you please, please double check your own work for typos. Members can send
their pieces directly to Sonny and others may submit through the website.
And for any members who have yet to submit a photo and a writing bio, now
would be the best time for doing so.
Our Mothers’ Day page
has been updated and now contains several of Amanda’s poems as well. And
I am submitting one that my daughter, Sarah, wrote. Be sure to check these
out.
Next meeting will be
Thursday, May 3rd, here at my place at 7:00 p.m. Look forward
to seeing you then and may The Muse be with you and inspire you.
