THE RAM’S HEAD REVIEW
July 8, 2007
Five of us met Thursday night, and the only one who had written anything was Margaret. She read first and we heard of Peasly trying to give the new parrot to Peacock, but there was no answer at his door, so he went to the Inn where he learned Peabody had been found unconscious and was thought to have been like that the whole time. So now Peasly wonders who he had been playing chess with? He decides to get rid of the parrot and gives it to some Sally Ann soldiers on a bus who gave him a ride home. We later hear they are wanted for bank robberies.
Ellie read the beginning of another story she wrote some time ago but never finished. This time we hear of Tassi, who is alone at the lakeshore, hoping she will hear the voices of the lake speak to her at sunrise, as told in the legends. She sees an archway in the lake, and a sunbeam carrries her through it. She ends up at the feet of a very tall woman of light who has green eyes, and speaks to her in her mind. Very interesting beginning.
I read an essay entitled “Nowhere Man” by Pico Iyer, which is an amazing comment on people who have grown up as international citizens, who feel at home in any airport, but not affiliated with any one country. Their whole life is one of travel, travel, travel. Just fascinating.
Gemma said she has been reading a children’s book called “The Canning Season” by Polly Horvath. Gemma was captivated by this book, both it’s plot and characterization. She said she’s going to read more children’s literature.
With lazy summer days upon us, we are all looking for writing inspiration. I have ordered some software which I will describe after I receive and install it. Also tried some clustering as a writing prompt. Amazing way to write from the Soul.
Bob said he has Monday and Tuesday free this coming week, so maybe he can force himself to do some writing. We look forward to hearing something he’s written.
For the course she’s taking, Ann is writing a creative non-fiction travelogue about the first trip she took to the U.K. and Paris. And Carolann said her poem “Summer” is in the July edition of Senior Newsmagazine. Congratulations.
Next meeting will be here at my place on Thursday, July 12th at 7:00 p.m. Since weather is supposed to be very hot, I’ll turn the air conditioning on for us that day. Love to see you then, even if it’s just so we can all cool off.
